There were seven Spanish Angels,
At the alter of the Sun.
They were prayin' for the lovers,
In the valley of the gun.
When the battle stopped,
And the smoke cleared.
There was thunder from the throne.
And seven Spanish angels,
Took another angel home.
Willie Nelson, "Seven Spanish Angels"
Three months ago, Lil' Charlie went home to be with his family. This evening Lil' Charlie went home to be with the Lord. Charlie was a dear and precious friend and I was so lucky to have known him for the years I did. Never did a day go by when I did not think of him, my Rock City Gnome.
I met Charlie about four years ago at a karaoke bar named Walt's. I remember he was singing "Purple Rain" and I was thinking, "What the heck is this crazy old man doing?" I swear, that man never met a stranger. He was the friendliest, most fun and lively man I have ever known, and I am so blessed to have known him.
Charlie's smile was infectious and the minute he entered a room, the party started. He was a man who loved and was loved by many. He showed me that it does not matter how old you are, you can still kick up your heels and have a good time. If ever I was feeling down, he would lift my spirits. Heck, even when he was not there, I would just think of him and realize that there is always good and happiness in the situation.
I know that Charlie is in a better place, but I also know that those of us here are missing him greatly. So, here's to Lil' Charlie!!! May he rest in Heaven's most swinging karaoke bar singing his heart out!!!
